The 0.1–200 keV spectrum of the blazar PKS 2005–489 during an active state
The bright BL Lac object PKS 2005–489 was observed by BeppoSAX on November 1–2, 1998, following an active X–ray state detected by RossiXTE. The source, detected between 0.1 and 200 keV, was in a very high state with a continuum well fitted by a steepening spectrum due to synchrotron emission only. Our X–ray spectrum is the flattest ever observed for this source. The different X–ray spectral slo...
متن کاملDiscovery of VHE gamma rays from PKS 2005 – 489
The high-frequency peaked BL Lac PKS 2005−489 (z = 0.071) was observed in 2003 and 2004 with the HESS stereoscopic array of imaging atmospheric-Cherenkov telescopes in Namibia. A signal was detected at the 6.7σ level in the 2004 observations (24.2 h live time), but not in the 2003 data set (27.3 h live time). PKS 2005−489 is the first blazar independently discovered by HESS to be an emitter of ...
متن کاملthe search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame
this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

We present VLT long slit optical spectroscopy of the luminous BL Lacertae object PKS 2005-489. The high signal-to-noise ratio and the good spatial resolution of the data allow us to detect the signatures of ongoing star formation in an extended rotating ring, at ∼ 4 kpc from the nucleus. We find that the ring is almost perpendicular to the radio axis and its total star formation rate is ≃ 1 M ⊙...
متن کاملSearch for intraday radio variability in EGRET blazars
We present results of intraday variability observations at 5 GHz of the EGRET blazars 0202+14, 0235+16, 2230+11, and 2251+15. The BL-Lac object 0235+16 presented flux density variations of ∼ 7 % over timescales of ∼ 1.3 days. The source 0202+14 was also variable, although with smaller amplitudes. The behaviour of 0235+16 at short timescales is almost identical to that presented in previous intr...
